Which idea do you like better for Halloween?

Since I'm a cheap-wad I'm using things I already have for this year's Halloween. I think I want to do one of these.

-Pajama Party! I have a sleeper I bought from Target (what can I say, they're cozy) and I'd have two little ponytails and a stuffed bear.

-The Crazy Dog Lady! I got inspired once I found my ol' poodle brooch. So I'd have the brooch and this dog necklace I have, I'd write Crazy Dog Lady on my shirt, and I'd have a bunch of stuffed dogs. Maybe I'll mess up my hair for effect. If I go Trick-or-treating (which I most likely will, who can pass up free chocolate?) I'll bring my real pooch.

Number TWO.

I still go trick-or-treating too. I'm 13.

I dressed up as Dorothy from Wizard-of-Oz and I brought my puppy as Toto.

I like your 2nd idea.

For added effect, roll in the mud, and have an old dog food bag for the candy

*let Judge roll a bit too!!

I agree, an old dog food bag for the candy would be great.

Also, if you have the hair for it - I think a poodle "do" on top would be great.

The crazy dog lady is so different . I would go with that, maybe even take Judge along..

Have fun.

I say crazy dog lady! Thnx for the ideas :]

Chinatown in Chicago?

I've lived in Chicago for about a year and a half, and I've never been to Chinatown. Can anyone tell me if it's similar to the one in NY (Canal Street area)? I'm looking for a brooch for my wedding dress, and people keep telling me to go to Chinatown to scope one out because there usually really nice, and super cheap.

Thoughts anyone? Thanks!

Do what people are telling you. Chinatown is located around 22nd & Wentworth and is accessable from the Dan Ryan. It is smaller than the ones in NYC and San Francisco but has shops that should have what you want.

Take the L or Red line litrerally to Chinatown. However note, to get to Chinatown unless your coming up far north you will have to go through Chicagos East Side Ghetto. Though they moved out and cleared out the Hyde Park Chinatown is still surrounded by the East and West Side ghettos respectfully.

Your best bet is taking the L there and getting whatever shipped to you or come up all the way north then south. Or if your on the South -West- side of chicago and notice everyone there stays in the bubble now you know why.

If your on the South West Side of Chicago you can take the metra thats the only way a South Sider (They are actually South West Siders but hey) gets downtown and its either by a car full of people ready to protect themselves for their dear lives or metra to cut through the ghettos

I can't get good close-ups with my Olympus E-510. PLEASE HELP!!?

Hi......I hope that someone has one of these cameras and can offer some advice! Even when I set my camera to the Macro setting, I am still able to take close-up pictures of jewellery. The camera doesn't want to focus close up, and will only do so when the lens is roughly 10 inches away from the subject (earrings, brooches etc) meaning that the jewellery nowhere near fills the frame. This obviously isn't giving me the pictures I need for selling via the internet! I have a cheap compact digi camera that will take a picture of a small item resulting in a sharp pic which fills the frame.

Where am I going wrong with my digital SLR?

I would be so grateful for any suggestions!

Thank you for your time......kindest regards from Melanie.

The problem is that your lens is not designed for close focusing. The macro setting on your camera is meaningless. It does nothing to the lens. All it does is set the exposure based on the fact that you will be shooting close up shots. What you need is a macro lens. A macro lens is a lens designed to focus very closely on small objects and fill the frame. They are also very good for portraits as they have large apertures and are very sharp. The Olympus 50mm macro ($400) would be a very good choice.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/301932-REG/Olympus_261003_50mm_f_2_0_Macro_ED.html

You need to buy the proper lens for the macro setting.

Im not too keen on olympus cameras but I have taken out my friends Olympus and I find that Macro Zuikos 35 & 50 are very spectacular it requires you to get very close to your subject to produce a close image.

If you prefer not to get to close you can try a long focusing tube like the 70-300mm, pair it with a ex-25 tube and you;ll be able to keep your distance and still project closeup photography.

Your other option is to crop your images. Since you need to reduce the size of your images to post on the web, cropping will do the same thing.

your lens is the kit lens.

as stated, its not for closeups.

you need either the 35mm macro, the 50mm macro, or a cheaper option is buying closeup filters which attach to the front of the lens.

I have a close up filter that I use with this lens and it helped until I bought the 50mm.

Olympus makes great glass.

Also if you are selling prints, cropping for the internet will not help because you are then degrading the image unless you use a photoshop plugin that will allow you to blow up your image with minimal image quality loss.

Check out here for a close up filter set:

Do You Know You Can Get Though The Holidays on mere pennies!?

You know christmas is all about sharing good times with family and close friends.all we really want to know is that were all loved! Keep the holidays simple!! Christmas is very magical for me.there is so much going on event wise during the holidays just watch your local newspapers for all the events listed and local charites whom offer many great free!!! christmas meals to share with your families..but some do request rsvp..so many great cooks whom make such great foods and lavish desserts..in keeping the holidays simple some suggestions are; 1.make up home baked holiday treats from cookies,to mini holiday cakes,to home made candies, caramel apples, pizza cookies, home made breads, jams or jellies,or home baked ice cream cone cakes are always fun to give, and recieve...Do you realize there are so many budget friendly stores for those of us on tight budgets as i am..for me my favorite places to shop when i have some cash on hand are: 1.pier 1 imports clearance items

2.dollar general stores

3.dollar tree stores

4.family dollar stores

5.Big Lot stores

6.target dollar spot items

7.save -a-lot grocery stores have a whole dollar section and a numerous assortment of really neat finds.for just a buck! from mens and womans winter hat and gloves to give as sets,to socks,to dvd classic movies so why not make a movie night gift basket filled with classic dvd movies.. or another budget simple friendly idea for all the men on your list is make up poker gift baskets filled with the poker hand book, the decks of cards, the dice, and the poker chips ,etc...(shh my son is getting this this year)!!that they will wow over!!

another budget friendly idea for all the cooks on your list is too buy a inexpensive metal sifter and fill it with tools we need...

another suggestion i really enjoy is shopping at only the dollar general store .as i favor there holiday scented candles in a jar for $1.00 there the best.. then buy some holiday printed sacks.some bows, the tags, perhaps some boxes of candy canes to add to front of package.needless to say slip one holiday scented candle per bag..and what a clever inexpensive holiday gift to give and recieve..or if you do not enjoy giving holiday scented candles why not use inexpensive photo frames in stead of the scented holiday candles.

even family fare dollar grocery stores have dollar rack of cosmetics why not give sets of cosmetics or sets of professional make up brushes to give for the gals on your list...

holiday pins and brooches

photo frames

holiday candles

stationary

body butters,and bath stuff

bath stuff for men.

sets of winter gloves and hats for both men and woman

buy bulk candies from meigers to give as holiday treats fill a cup or holiday container of...

and it also helps greatly to if you have not already do start a holiday gift container to watch for neat non food itemes to fill in it with as you fined em for dirt cheap clearance prices while shopping all year long really helps me out too...so the reason i wrote this is because last night i tried to answere some one whom was broke but yahoo had troubles last night ..one can only hope this finds its way to her as well..wishing you all a very joyous holiday season...

great ideas...thanks for sharing...

these are good ideas

Resin/acrylic jewellery?

I really want to make plastic jewellery and brooches like this one http://www.dollydagger.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=GTNCK3REDMTT&cat=81

but i have no idea how. is there any cheap kits i can get, or can anyone tell me what you nees to make them and how you do it?

Resin jewelry is usually thicker than what the picture you provided looks like. It is two liquids that you mix together and then pour into a mold. You could get something close to what the picture shows by purchasing shrink plastic. It comes in sheets and you would draw your shape and cut it out, then heat it according to directions and then paint it with a glossy paint like the enamel meant for models or something like that. Then coat it with clear gloss if you want it very shiny. You have to have your shape cut out exactly how you want it including holes, etc., before you shrink it because it gets too thick and hard to cut. Make sure you cut it larger than you want it to be, it shrinks quite a bit. Be sure to read all the directions. All these things are available at craft stores such as Michael's or Hobby Lobby, or the like if you are in the UK.

Have fun and be creative!

Bridesmaid dress brooch?

I'm trying to find cheap, simple, but classy brooches for my bridesmaid dresses. They're wearing teal, empire waist dresses and would like to add a little something to the side of the band to glam them up a bit. I'm just wondering if anyone knows where to look or any good sites to check out for cheap, but stylish brooches (or anything other ideas you may have). Thanks!

I love this : http://www.amazon.com/Certified-Genuine-Honey-Sterling-Silver/dp/B000RO8BN2/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=jewelry&qid=1236050832&sr=1-9

Also another thing that you can do.. Is pick out a bunch that you like and then let each bridesmaid pick which one that she wants to wear. That way the can all have a bit of their own look :)

Ok I've found a lot more! It's kinda funny because I've been wanted to look for a couple brooches for me... and just never got around to it, so I'm finally doing it lol Thanks :)

Good Luck!

JCPenneys and Macys have brooches. They're usually less than $20 and many times you can find them on sale. I got some for $9 each.

Just don't worry about the brooches.

Stop spending money on crap like dresses and brooches for girls to wear for about 2 hours.
